Seattle Food Events Calendar updated!
I decided to add another category by which you can filter the calendar – Charitable Events. So things like food drives, the FareStart dinners, etc., will be under that category. You can also check out the Volunteer Cooking Opportunities I just posted about separately.
Some highlights for the next week; after the gluttony of Thanksgiving, I am including some healthy food-related events as well. Links and more contact info are available in the individual calendar entries:
Saturday, Nov 24: Through Dec 22, Pike Place Market is offering “free” parking on Friday and Saturday between noon and 4pm – just note you will need to purchase $30 worth of stuff from the market, but if you were planning on shopping anyway, maybe this is the incentive you need to brave the crowd.
Sunday, Nov 25: there is a Creole Dinner and Zydecko Dance at the Highway 99 Blues Club. I don’t know, right now some spicy Creole food sounds really really tasty.
Monday, Nov 26: Uwajimaya is closing out November – which is Diabetes Awareness Month – with their last seminar on Diabetes Awareness. This includes a walk around the grocery store itself to talk about what foods are appropriate. I thought this sounded like a great resource. My natural suspicions are raised since it’s sponsored by Eli Lilly (I worked for a pharmaceutical company for a while) but I figure the food portion can’t be too influenced? Hopefully?
Monday, Nov 26: Through Friday, PCC is running a special “Week of Giving” at several stores for the weekdays next week; drop off food for the hungry. See the event for more details and for daily locations.
Monday, Nov 26: The Pub at Ravenna Third Place is having their weekly “Science on Tap” lectures. While this isn’t technically a food event, I figure anytime you get to learn while having a beer is a good thing.
Tuesday, Nov 27: Graham Kerr will be giving a lecture at the Lake Forest Park Third Place. The subject will be “improving your health by making reasonable dietary and lifestyle choices.” The lecture starts at 7pm; the event is co-sponsored by Northwest Hospital, and they will offer health screenings (blood sugar and blood pressure) before, starting at 6pm.
Thursday, Nov 29: Lauri Carter’s Guest Chef night at FareStart has sold out, as have all the remaining events for 2007. However, they do offer a wait list – call 206-267-6210.
