Seattle Food Events Calendar Highlights Dec 20 – Dec 26

Looking for Food Events? As of January, 2009, please see my new site: www.FreshPickedSeattle.com!

As you can imagine, there isn't a heck of a lot going on this next week. I think there is some kind of holiday next week or something? Santa Claus's Anniversary or something like that.

So while I will pull out the few highlights that exist, I will instead use this space to note I AM COMPLETELY PANICKING ABOUT NEW YEAR'S EVE.

So my friend, President of the Debate Club, and her husband, First Guy of the Debate Club, are coming into town from NYC and are arriving New Year's Eve Day. I am sure that there is some activity out there that is just ideal for our budgets, temperments and senses of fun, but I have been so overwhelmed with 1031 jobs, purchasing presents/wrapping them in the most twee and adorable paper I could possibly find with coordinating twee and adorable ribbon curlicues, and now this goddamn biscotti that I haven't really put as much thought into it as I should. Even with doing this calendar, I feel like there are stones left unturned.

I don't mind doing something not spectacular if I've exhausted all research avenues, but I hate the idea that I will not have exhausted all research avenues, and will spend the evening covered with guilt and shame that I just missed The World's Most Perfect New Year's Activity for Debate Club Presidents & Their Spouses and therefore have failed to adequately Hostess-with-Mostest. It's the Unknown Unknowns that get you.  Or is that a Known Unknown?

Also, I am irritated for not taking advantage of one of the benefits of one of my 2145 jobs which is to talk to Seattle-area chefs. I should have been picking their brains ages ago and now I find myself without any brains to pick! (Exclaiming "Brains!" in zombie voice.)

So (shoulders slumping), if anybody out there has any ideas, please feel free to comment. I tried asking the Chowhound forum and was met with a chilly silence. What's up with that?

'lights!! As always, see the individual event on the Seattle Food Events Calendar for specifics and contacts.

Multiple Days: Rope is still playing at Central Cinema several times this week. See last week's Highlights for my shrieking-with-enthusiasm recommendation.

Thursday, Dec 20

  • Reservations open for FareStart Guest Chef night on Jan 31, 2008, with Matt Jones of Starry Night.
  • The Federal Way Metropolitan Market is having a free one-hour cheese class.

Friday, Dec 21

  • Last day for Bastyr University Bookstore sale.
  • Theo Chocolates is having another Port and Chocolate event.

Saturday, Dec 22

  • Last day for free-ish parking at Pike Place Market.
  • Metropolitan Market starts their "Red Coats" event, which will run until Dec 24."The Culinary Artist Team, dressed in red coats, will wander the aisles of Metropolitan Market ready to answer cooking questions, make recipe suggestions and assist in your holiday cooking needs."  Do you think I should ask them about biscotti?  Has that horse been beaten to death yet?  Raise your hand if you think this blog needs the word "biscotti" like 60,000 more times.

Sunday, Dec 23: Ballard Market (206-781-6776) & West Seattle Market are supposed to be open today, so you could do some last minute shopping if you like. Sometimes their sites aren't the most updated, so you might want to double check that they are, in fact, operating on Sunday by calling/emailing before making a special trip.

Monday, Dec 24: Tilth Restaurant is having an Organic Christmas Eve dinner, featuring: Spot Prawn Bisque, Arugula Salad, Duck Leg Confit, and Chocolate Pot de Crem.  Reservations needed, limited space available.
