Seattle Food Events Calendar Highlights Jan 17 – Jan 22

Looking for Food Events? As of January, 2009, please see my new site: www.FreshPickedSeattle.com!

************************

I think I’ve finally gotten a handle on the format for the highlights; every Thursday, I’ll be giving you the On-Going (quick blurbs about stuff I’ve already talked about), This [particular] Week's Highlights, AND (new! improved!) the Coming Up.

I am adding the Coming Up section because a) I always like a reason to create more bullet points, and b) the way that food-crazed Seattleites pounce on schmancy times special events means if you wait until the week of to sign up for that unique dinner with a local chef at a hot spot, most likely you’ll be waitlisted.  So anything I add out in the future but that seems schmancy times-enough to fill up quickly, I’ll put in the Coming Up section.

Keep this in mind if you have a food-focused special event coming up (food-lover’s birthday, food-loving couple’s anniversary, etc.).  I’d also recommend scrolling through the Seattle Food Events Calendar well in advance to make sure the early bird gets the grain-fed humanely-raised worm served on a bed of organic local wilted greens with a balsamic reduction.

And of course, for everything, complete details in individual events in the Calendar.

On-Going

  • New Urban Eats – Sundays through Thursdays through Jan 31.
  • PCC Bulk Work Packaging Parties and Wine Tastings – various, still haven’t add sites after Issaquah in the alphabet.  In my defense, I am being forced to work on a computer without Firefox and with a 7000-year-old version of IE and it feels like I'm working on a Kaypro and it’s amazing I updated the calendar at all.  See PCC site for full details of all sites.
  • Mac and Cheese Mondays at The Tasting Room.
  • Still some winter Farmers Markets still going.

Coming Up

  • Reservations open today for 2/28/8 Chef Matt Janke from Matt's in the Market.
  • Serafina in Eastlake holds wine tastings roughly every couple of weeks on Saturdays at 3pm.  Next one in on Jan 26.  Their website lists the themes for the events and indicates they might fill up.
  • TASTE at SAM holds Sunday Suppers featuring a five-course meal “inspired by the season’s best” from a local producer who will be at the event.  January 27 is Skagit River Ranch, March 30 features Fishing Vessel St. Jude.
  • Chateau St. Michelle will have a Valentine’s Day dinner called “We Love It” on Saturday, Feb 9.
  • Cache private supper club events seem to fill up very quickly.  Their Feb 22 “Diner Special” is full, but they do offer a waitlist.  Their March 9 event does not have a menu listed, but their March 15 St. Patty’s event does (some of the menu in the event in Calendar) and has space.
  • Are you actually wanting to eat a little less?  Or at least better?  Bastyr University is running an 8-week weight loss clinic on Tuesdays from 6-7pm.  Registration closes on Jan 25 (see event that day for more details).

This Week's Highlights

Friday, Jan 18

  • Flavors of Latin America dinner at Chateau St. Michelle.  “Regional specialities from Oaxaca, Cuba, Peru, Brazil & Argentina.”
  • IPA Tasting at Malt and Vine.

Sunday, Jan 20: Chef Jason Wilson holds his Test Kitchen Dinner at Crush.  “New ideas in a four-course dinner with wine pairings” for $85.  This seems like precisely the kind of schmancy times event that would be sold out, but it’s still listed on site, so give it a shot.

Monday, Jan 21

  • Italian winemakers visit La Spiga.  “La Spiga welcomes the producers from Altesino, Fanti and Poggio San Polo vineyards for an evening of Brunello, one of Italy’s best-known wines.”
  • Tilth has one of their Monday “Homage to Local Producers” evening, featuring Tiny’s Organics.

Happy Eating!!
