Do you need a dish that uses butter, mayonnaise and/or gelatin (preferably all)?

Or how about a recipe that has a title including at least one of the following words:

  • Chipped
  • Creamed
  • Buttered
  • Devilled
  • Molded
  • Jellied
  • Hash
  • Mash
  • Mush
  • Cocktail
  • Loaf
  • Ring
  • Surprise

Do you like to eat every single one of your proteins "broiled"?

If so, I might be able to help you out!  Whilst out and about antiquing in Snohomish with my friend Sarah today, I found four copies of American Cookery from 1934-35.

It's too easy, of course to make fun of old-timey foods, but wow!  If not for iceberg lettuce salads, I am amazed these people ever...um...how to put it?  Well, let's just say it was not a fiber-rich diet, shall we?

I'll probably be posting some of the best bits over coming weeks, but right now I need to go read the answer to "What is correct to use for a cloth at a formal luncheon?"
