An Unintended Consequence of the CIY Project
Friday, February 1, 2008 at 10:28AM There were a few tasks I anticipated when undertaking the Cook It Yourself project, namely cooking and lots of dishwashing.
One I did not anticipate: rat disposal.
For giggles, I included a picture of my cat in yesterday's CIY Project food slideshow. I didn't know my cat even read this blog, much less that he would take the idea of getting your own food from scratch so seriously.
But last night, when I let him in from outdoors before bed @ 3am, I was anticipating he would run in, screaming for his dinner since he gets fed right after his outdoor playtime and right before bed. Instead, he ran in, silently holding his dinner. A freshly-killed rat. (There's a little creek thing by my house and lots of critters running about.)
Um, good job, Cat?
So I guess it's catching, this desire to be able to feed oneself. Which would be great if it weren't for, you know, the rat-carcass-disposal-at-3am part of it, which really is not the kind of glamour I was aiming for in my adult life. I also appreciated how he did this on the night when the trash cans are at the curb, meaning extra seconds with limp dead rat wrapped in plastic bag in my hand. And now I'm afraid of the plague but hoping recent application of flea treatment will keep us from the black death.
