Seattle Food Events Calendar Highlights Feb 1 – Feb 6

Looking for Food Events? As of January, 2009, please see my new site: www.FreshPickedSeattle.com!

************************

Once again, I can't seem to come up with my usual long-winded and thoroughly unnecessary intro for this segment.  Except I will say that updating a food events calendar (especially one with the words "Bread Pudding" on it) when you are starving is rough business, my friends.

Please see Seattle Food Events Calendar page for FULL calendar (as there's more than just these highlights, lots more!), and if any of the below highlights interest you, you can find more details and contact info in the actual Calendar itself.

THIS WEEK

Friday, Feb 1

  • Cupcake Royale's special Valentine's Day cupcake, Deathcake Royale, becomes available today.  Now through Valentine’s Day.
  • Brown Beer Tasting at Malt & Vine.
  • Bainbridge Bread Pudding Bakeoff: “Bakers - chefs, caterers and Earnest Amateurs alike - are invited to enter their best puddings, samples $1.00 a taste to vote for the island's best; all proceeds benefit Bainbridge's Helpline House foodbank.”  I really wish I didn’t already have something going on tonight.

Saturday, Feb 2:

  • Tet Festival at Seattle Center
  • OMG!!!1!!!  Baby Chicks!!!  Seattle Tilth offers a class on raising chickens from chicks for egg-laying.

  • Going grocery shopping in Issaquah?  Have an extra bike on hand?  You can donate it at the Issaquah PCC between 11am and 3pm today.

Monday, Feb 4: Seattle Farmer Chef Connection "This event welcomes progressive leaders in the food community to network and discuss agricultural issues impacting the Northwest. A lunch will be prepared by local chefs using direct-from-the-farm ingredients. Chefs contributing to this year's lunch include Maria Hines, chef/owner at Tilth, Aaron Wright, executive chef at Canlis, and Dustin Ronspies, chef/owner at Art of the Table.” $30, register in advance via link in Calendar event.

Tuesday, Feb 5:

  • Mardi Gras!
  • FREE! Steve Roberts celebrates the release of his new book, Winetrails of Washington: A Guide to Uncorking Your Memorable Wine Tour at Wines of Washington at The Tasting Room.

Wednesday, Feb 6: FREE! Union Square Grill is holding complementary chocolate and wine tastings on Wednesdays through the 27th.  This week, the theme is “Chocolate’s Savory Side & Local Red Wines.”

ON-GOING

  • PCC Bulk Work Packaging Parties and Wine Tastings – various, still haven’t add sites after Issaquah in the alphabet. See PCC site for full details of all sites.
  • Mac and Cheese Mondays at The Tasting Room.
  • Some winter Farmers Markets still going.

COMING UP

  • FareStart: Reservations Open for 3/13/8 Chef Andrew Wilson from Suncadia Resort.  Space still available for 2/7 Chef Peter Levine of Troiani Ristorante Italiano, 2/28 Chef Dave Miller of The Jolly Roger & 3/6 Chef - Joseph Conrad of Qube.
  • Serafina in Eastlake will continue to hold wine tastings roughly every couple of weeks on Saturdays at 3pm. Their website lists the themes for the events and indicates they might fill up.
  • TASTE at SAM: Winemaker Dinner with Winemaker of the Year Brian Carter on February 13.  Valentine’s Day Dinner just posted as well, possibly an option for the procrastinating?  Their Sunday Supper with local meat and dairy ranchers Skagit River Ranch dinner was postponed, new date not yet determined.   The next dinner that had been listed is now not on website. Will continue to check back..
  • Chateau St. Michelle will have a Valentine’s Day dinner called “We Love It” on Saturday, Feb 9, a "Tour de France" on March 15, a "Spring Fling" on April 19, and "An Evening with John Sarich" on May 16.
  • On Feb 29, Union Square Grill will have Cacao Crazy Dinner, with a “five-course dinner of chocolate-inspired dishes including foie gras with chocolate mousse, cocoa-rubbed filet mignon and assorted truffles.”
  • Cache private supper club events seem to fill up very quickly.  Their Feb 22 “Diner Special” is full, but they do offer a waitlist.  Their March 9 event does not have a menu listed, but their March 15 St. Patty’s event does (some of the menu in the event in Calendar) and has space.

Would he have to know? They’re so small!! Think about it: you can fit Mojo in bag, but you can fit a chick in your pocket!
