So much going on!  Too much to fit into the highlights!  Be sure to look at the Seattle Food Events Calendar for details and contacts for below highlights and even more stuff to do, she said ominously.  Seattle foodie season is in full effect.  I hope you have been stretching out your stomach like a competitive eater in preparation.

THIS WEEK

Friday, Jul 11:

Saturday, Jul 12:

  • Have you been wondering how to become the object of one of my crushes?  It's easy: become a chef.  Learn how at the South Seattle Community College's Culinary Arts Program Open House for info on their programs.  Warning (or perhaps challenge) for the olds, like me: Anthony Bourdain says if you are over 30, it's too late to fulfill your dream of becoming a professional chef.  Are you going to let him have the last word?  9:30am.
  • Get out of town and head to Carnation for the Helping Hands Kick-Off Work Party at Full Circle Farms.  Help with stream restoration under the Salmon-Safe Certification program. 10am.
  • FREE! Berry Spectacular at University District Farmer's Market.  Celebrate the market's 15th Anniversary with free berry shortcake and samples.  Live bluegrass and free gifts.  10am.
  • Chinatown-International District Summer Festival.  11am-8pm.
  • "The night before or on Bastille Day, July 14, the firemen of each city and village are hosts of their 'Bal des pompiers' which often includes live music and partying in the streets. In Seattle, the Bal de Pompiers will be held on July 12 at Fisher Pavilion Program: Dinner prepared by the French Chef, Thierry Rautureau, also known as Seattle's Chef In The Hat!" 6pm to 12am.

Sunday, Jul 13:

As many as eight cooking teams have been challenged to master one of six specified animals, whole or in parts, using fire, earth, steel and little else.
